A blog about anything but real estate

Here's a blog about stuff. I will mention real estate because that's what I do for a living, but I'm tired of talking about real estate all the time. What about that Hillary? Chipper Jones is batting .429.

Here's an interesting post -- Bombast -- and I've done a little investigating, too. It appears that many of the top 50 bloggers write strictly about real estate sales and some are late on car payments. One is going through a divorce, it seems, and several have been seen at bars late at night in not too good condition.

What does this tell us? They are frauds! Yes, some the top real estate bloggers are staying on topic, having financial trouble and drinking too much. I won't name names though. That would be cheesy. I have to admit I write on topic sometimes, but I'm happily married and my car payments are up to date.

Having said that, I think it's a travesty that some bloggers, who will remain nameless, of course, don't write about more than statistics and how to get stubborn buyers to buy what they have to sell. Lately I've become so bored with these bloggers, I've actually started skipping over some of them. I've started looking for blogs about blackberries, or mud wrestling, anything but real estate.

Yes! I don't read all bloggers. I know, I know, I should read every blog and suffer through the ones I don't like, but I just can't anymore. Perhaps if they will start writing about Russian literature or Norse mythology, I'll return, but for now I'll have to skip them. I can't take anymore real estate talk.

LOL -- I just got tired of reading Barry's crap. Nothing more complicated. Some people rub me the wrong way.

I just like to see if they can take what they throw out.

Here is what hasn't been posted yet on bhb

Mike F and I had half a discussion awhile back on what many blogs are focused on; many of them not entirely real estate and not entirely consumer focused.

I think the bhb obviously is not Greg’s tool to get business for his real estate business, but rather a place for ideas to be exchange among smart people. The conversation flows and yes sometimes it gets a little out of hand (witness the “unsubscribe” incident a few months ago)

Barry does have a point.I don’t think he is trying to stifle what people blog about, but merely pointing out that perhaps our imminent bloggers are not necessarily the top real estate producers in the country and perhaps they, we and I are all guilty of spending a little TOO much time blogging.(witness this post-in effect,blogging about blogging)

Mary McKnight, in response to a blog post I wrote EONS ago “The case against blogging” in which I pointed out that perhaps a large part of your audience would be other realtors and you may lose some sleep, wrote:

“You know, I agree. One of the first things I say to a Realtor is “your blog is there to support your business, not the other way around.” A Realtor that can devote all day to blogging and shooting the breeze with other Realtors, isn’t a very good Realtor. My advice is… Blog smart. Use it as a tool to build your business, but once it starts robbing your business of time, join a 12 step program.”

Jay made a similar point in his cartoon that showed a lone blogger late at night calling back from his computer to his wife “I’ll be there in a minute someone is WRONG on the internet”

This highlights that we may all be a little too addicted and as barry points out

“Forget Redfin and what they are doing. Don’t worry about Bloodhound Unchained and whether or not Odysseus is going to succeed. Yes, Russell Shaw has a new home on agent genius…is any of that going to help you sell or buy a home today?”

Again, while we all may be interested in Russell’s new home or whether Unchained will “kick Inman’s ass” and are free to as Mike F. says blog about what we wish, perhaps we are getting a little too caught up in this type of stuff.

The point is that it's nobody's business. I have two business blogs I use to blog about real estate and they do fairly well at drawing business. I developed this blog to talk about real estate in general to other real estate agents, to myself, or to anyone reading. Barry doesn't have a point at all, except maybe people blog too much -- but that's just an opinion.

I could say we also don't need a radio show on top of it.I manage my time so that I have time to do things I like to do -- blogging is one of them. I don't watch much TV, so I use that time blogging.

It's none of my busines how often someone blogs. And it's definitely none of my business how their business is faring. I have other things to worry about. When you get down to it, blogging doesn't take up much time.

The idea that everything we write must be about real estae, especially on a blog that's not meant for business, is ludicrous. Then to write a long post complaining and top it off with the fact it's an offense the writer is guilty of, well, that's truly ludicrous

I get tired of talking about real estate all the time, we live and breath it! How about talking about wine? We own a family business, an upscale retail wine store and it is a blast.Would love to hear your comments on wine.

What in your opinion is a good, moderately priced red wine?

My first experience with wine was at Piedmont Park in Atlanta during the sixties -- I was watching a free Spirit concert and drinking Bali Hai wine out of a jug.

I don't think they make Bali Hai wine anymore and besides I don't think it was wine at all-just some fruit juice and alcohol.

My favorite mid price wines would be some Autralian Shiraz, California Zinfadel, Italian Primitivo, Spanish Rioja and New Zealand Cabernet Sauvignon.
For expensive wine, I'll go with first growth Bordeaux (and CH. Palmer) French Burgundies and Oregon and California Pinot

We haven't completely got away from real estate because any wine connosiuer's disccusion of wine will inevitably lead to a discussion of the "terroir"

Every real estate transaction ought to include a glass of wine -- it seems appropriate, now that I think about it.
