This is another example of a government takeover. The State is now attempting to be the sole lender for college loans. The subsidy system was bad, and this will be worse.
It's past time to begin serious plans to privatize education, period, and allow the free market to work out solutions which would bring down education costs by offering innovative options -- especially online options.
Without government intervention and regulations, education, healthcare and retirement savings plans would proliferate to give parents the means to start setting up their children's future from the beginning. Separate charitable plans would address children with special financial needs. All the wasted money going into government in the form of taxes, if left in the private sector, would be enough for individuals to start planning and saving early -- plus, with competition, prices would drop significantly.
