Living in weird times -- the healthcare boondoggle

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/10/30/health-care-businesses-risk-house/

Chip Kahn, the president of the Federation of American Hospitals, cheered the bill, saying it moves toward "a market-based health system."

A market-based health system? I don't know what to say -- we're in a parallel universe where everything is backwards, upside down or just plain old screwed-up. The medical industry will be pillaged as government squeezes every penny it can to pay for this boondoggle.

I shudder to imagine what the healthcare industry will look like in 5 to 10 years. I wouldn't advise any young person to get into healthcare at this point -- go into technology, business, marketing, anything but healthcare. There will be so much pressure to keep costs from spiralling out of control that no one is going to be paid what they are worth. The government is asking rich people and healthcare workers to sacrifice to pay for healthcare, while everyone else supposedly gets a sweet deal -- but we'll all wind up paying. I wish I could muster up some optimism that good will come from all this, but I can't. Whatever good is claimed could be achieved by other free market means, and without all the problems and unintended consequences.

This is a government powerplay, pure and simple, and people like Chip Kahn are lackeys. I can't believe Kahn is that stupid, so he must be gauranteed some personal benefit along the line.

Forgive us, for we know not what we do.
