Afghanistan: take it or leave it

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32470364/ns/world_news-south_and_central_asia/

I am for leaving, but if we're going to stay, the only way to make it work is to take the country over and make it a part of the U.S. These silly half-measures in this third way of war will only put our men and women at risk for no good purpose.

We have no idea how to identify, isolate and defeat the enemy, and the people are not ready for sovereignty. There's no national cohesion and no understanding of statehood. Since we are not going to take over the whole country and do what would be necessary to enforce stability -- mainly because it would be weak control based on coercion, and it would require actions the U.S. rightly will not take -- then we need to patch what we can and get out -- it's a losing proposition for the U.S. and a perfect situation for those who hate the U.S.
