    Puerto Rico, U.S.A

    http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=126390142&ft=1&f=1001

There has been very little coverage regarding the question of Puerto Rico statehood being taken up in congress today. Is this a ploy to increase the Democrat's voting base? I hate to be cynical, but why is this being taken up now? Is this is a smart thing to do? Will it add more burden to over-burdened taxpayers and businesses in the U.S.? Why is this being pushed? The Progressive Party in Puerto Rico wants statehood -- are they in financial trouble? It appears so, but what do the Democrats get out of it?

I find it odd that NPR is the only place in the media I can find any reporting on this, and NPR doesn't say much.

A poster at Republican site Jumping in Pools thinks it's a good idea that will benefit the GOP. I don't know enough about the situation in Puerto Rico to know if he is correct.
