Politics as usual is the problem

It's amazing how nonchalantly the policial pundits write off unethical acts by saying it's the way of politics. Among the messages sent from the public this year, a call to end poltics as usual is one of them. People are thoroughly disgusted with the ethics of Washinton D.C. It's like we're supposed to accept unethical or illegal behavior because it's common practice. How can supposedly smart men and women be so tone-deaf and out of touch, and so morally ignorant?

The public is serious about integrity and politicians will either look up the word, become familiar with it and practice it, or they'll be in big trouble come election day. The Information Age allows us to search in seconds what used to take months or year to uncover. Politicians are being recorded and watched, and they're being held responsible for what they say and do. In a few years the unemployent line might grow longer with out-of work spin doctors, since what they do is no longer effective.

Spin doctors should be replaced with online reputation managers so that transparancy becomes a reality, and integrity becomes the sine qua non of a successful election campaign, and a career in politics.
