    The empty and shameless narrative

It goes like this -- 8 years of Bush ruined the country and placed us in a financial crisis. The crisis is so bad it will take a long, long time to recover. The recovery is under way due to the stimulus and other actions taken by the Democrat controlled government, and these actions have stabilized the crisis by saving or creating around 3 million jobs.

Bush and company favored big businesses and needlessly got us involved in a costly war, and their lack of concern for regulation set up risk-taking on Wallstreet which eventually crashed the financial system which had to be saved by bank bailouts.

Now that the economy has crashed, the only hope for recovery is government spending since uncertainty in the private sector has caused stagnation. The public is anxious as a result of Bush's collapse of the economy and they are blaming government in general. The Democrats understand this anger and believe the public wants government to do something and do it well, but Republicans are blocking progress by being the Party of No.

That's the narrative. The only thing close to being right is that the public is correctly blaming government in general for the problems. Even the parts of the problem which can be blamed on the public's behavior can be traced to government causes -- statism has created an environment which incentivizes behaviors which lead to financial crisis. Hope lies in the possibility that the public has caught on and will change their behavior and finally limit State power.

The Democrat narrative is a political evasion of serious national problems. Dishonestly among political leaders might be forgiven in good times, although it shouldn't be, but in times like this, dishonesty is shameless and unforgivable.
