Are Iran and Obama cutting a deal on Afghanistan and Iraq?

In August of 2009, I asked this question based on an article from the Council of Foreign Relations. Now, Obama is saying Iran might have a role to play in Afghanistan. If this happens, and the adminsitration's solution is to solve the Iran problem and the Afghanistan problem and prevent a blow-up in Iraq by giving the region to Iran based on some promise from Iran it will behave and act responsibly, this will end any chance of freedom for the youth of Iran, and we might be setting up a middle-east monster that comes back to bite us in the ass.

A journalist on Morning Joe this morning, and I can't remember his name, met with the president and as he was describing the meeting, which had to do with possible discussions with Iran now that the sanctions are squeezing Iran and Russia's support is weakening, he said the president was planning to explore how Iran can help with Afghanistan as a way to develope a constructive relationship.

I still believe when all is said and done, and when the US can no longer remain in Afghanistan and Iraq, this will be the solution -- Iran will manage the region with our blessing, whether it's expressed openly or not. Iran might even announce a change in heart and declare their new cooperation and desire to stabilze the region, with Iraq and Afghanistan being the payoff. The idea might be that if the whole region falls under the countrol of Iran, they will have to act responsibly as a new superpower.

The realists/pragmatists in the admiinstration might have capitulated to the reality that the region will be dangerous and unstable as long as Iran is not appeased. Rather than back the freedom-fighters in Iran, it appears we're going to make the mistake of cutting a deal with the devil and empowering Iran.
