    Political buzz in SC

The political buzz in SC is that Gingrich is rising and will likely beat Romney. Giving SC the benefit of the doubt, I'll assume they haven't embraced progressivism from the Right and simply want to extend the race so that Romney and Paul are not the only two left.

If there's a large faction of conservatives who actually believe Gingrich is the best choice, let's hope this faction is limited to SC, because, otherwise, conservatism is imploding. If the support is real, it's just another example of why ideas are important. There are still too many conservatives who are easily swayed by tough talk which opposes Democrats but have no positive, consistent principles to use as a foundation for affecting change. Just winning and getting Obama out of the White House will not accomplish anything meaningful if Republicans going in have no vision and principled plan to dismantle statism. Gingrich will not dismantle statism, or even try -- he will attempt to build his own power structure and intervene from the Right or Center.

We need more than rhetorical proficiency or management skills -- we need true defenders of limited government and a free market -- otherwise, it's Big Goverment Republicanism with more debt and economic decline.
