Meet the Press 1/22/2012 -- Newt against the establishment
Sunday, January 22, 2012 at 09:32AM I'm disappointed in South Carolina conservatives. On Meet the Press today, David Gregory interviewed Newt Gingrich and then Chris Chrisitie. The topic, of course, was the SC primary results -- Gingrich won in SC.
I had to smile when I heard Gingrich say with a straight face that he's leading the charge against the establishment. If Gingrich is leading the conservative movement against the Republican establishment, then conservatives have been duped and co-opted. Let's hope conservatives in SC were drunk with emotion, and when they sober up they will look over and see Newt Gingrich in their bed and come to their senses. By the time Florida comes around, conservatives will hopefully realize that Gingrich is the worst part of the establishment.
Christie came on and did a good job defending Romney against charges of being a tax evader or whatever he's being charged with. There's no way to know what's going on in the political realm, but what could have been a powerful conservative movement to limit government power and create a free market has been splintered. I think the "establishment" is shifting shapes. Too many conservatives are allowing emotion to blind them. I hope the emotions burn out and economic conservatives gain their footing again and calmly proceed forward with a vision of economic liberty and growth. Where is the condemnation of the past performances of both parties and the demand for something different? Where is the call to end all corporate welfare? Gingrich is not something different.
