McGovern -- the Left can learn from his life and character
Sunday, October 21, 2012 at 07:55PM I was 19 when McGovern ran against Nixon and lost in 1972. The way Nixon's administration turned out, the country lost, not McGovern. I was a Leftist at the time, involved in Yippie politics, fighting against the Viet Nam War.
My politics have changed since, but not my anti-establishment bent that was influenced by McGovern. McGovern was an unusual creature -- an honest politician. He held to principles and didn't place politics before all else.
The Left would do good its future to compare Obama and Reid and Pelosi to McGovern, then ask What in the hell went wrong?
