Progressivism under Barack Obama has been anything but progressive. The opportunity presented to the US through energy production is grand, and we have a President who expends an inordinate amount of energy, no pun intended, to block production. Not only is Obama blocking production, he's demonizing the industry and pushing congress to punish the industry with tax hikes.
Anyone who pays attention to the issue knows that Obama's recent push to end "subsidies" to Big Oil is based on bad information. There are a couple of small benefits for oil companies, per se, but in general oil companies receive no special breaks in taxes. If we want to end all subsidies and tax breaks on all companies, then fine, let's have that discussion, but this deceitful attack on Big Oil is not only bogus, but way more people know it's bogus today, compared to the many who could be fooled by such deceit 10 years ago.
Our President is not a serious person. Here we are with high gas prices in an anemic recovery which is hardly even a recovery, and what does Obama do? He uses obscurantism to deflect attention from his ignorance regarding what's needed right now in America and the world regarding oil and gas. Not only can we jumpstart the economy by producing energy full bore -- we can send a message to the mideast that we are on the way to breaking all ties, and unless the mideast wants to drift around in 15th century ignorance, they need to modernize and join the rest of the world. There are efforts already under way to find alternative sources of energy, but until we do, we should be producing what we can use for energy now.
When it comes to energy, Obama is a grand failure.
