When will we get serious about ending War on Drugs?
Friday, January 11, 2013 at 09:13PM As Biden holds court with different interest groups trying to develope a "sensible" gun plan, the lack of discussion regarding an end to the War on Drugs speaks to a lack of seriousness among the actors involved. Statistics on gang/related deaths by guns are difficult to come by, but some experts estimate that as high as half the deaths by gun that are not suicide are gang/drug related. Other statistics say 25% and lower, but anyone who's paid attention knows that the War on Drugs has created a huge number of deaths by gun as gangs battle for control of markets, and as shootouts with police happen across the nation.
Ending the War on Drugs will not stop mentally defective individuals from shooting people, but if Biden is serious about a comprehensive approach to dealing with the death by guns problem, he has to deal with the consequences of the War on Drugs. Insane government policies related to the War on Drugs are indirectly responsible for more deaths of kids than shootings in schools.
