I'm growing weary of the Presidential race. I'm totally sick of Obama and his snideness, cuteness, dishonesty, pettiness and arrogance. I thought for awhile that Romney would look at the American situation, give some deep thought to history, then understand that this is a time in which anyone who has the talent and capacity to lead should break through the sleaziness and obscurantism of politics and address our national problems straight on. It seems like Romney will run a conventional campaign, handled by political operatives all the way, polling comments and positions, playing the safe game and hoping to strategically outwit the opponent.
We need so much more from a President who's given such a big microphone. We need someone who will begin the process of expressing the limits that must be placed on government. We need someone who'll tell the truth about Afghanistan and our failed interventions in the mideast. What we're getting is platitudes and populism and misguided militaristic blather. Romney's problem is not that he's unexciting, and not that he lacks political slickness, and not that he has changed his mind about issues in the past, and not that he's listening to his base -- we don't need excitement, and we don't need someone who's stuck in the status quo, and we don't need someone who thinks that doing something big in government and leading us little people to a greater understanding of the State's paternalistic role in our lives is his calling. We need someone to seriously fight against government intervention and cronyism, and someone who will attempt to release the power of the private sector. We also need someone who can articulate the need for peace and free trade as well as those who've been articulating the need to maintain constant war and foreign entanglements.
