    Morning Joe 5/8/2012 -- Obama's clever manipulations

On Morning Joe today the main topic during the first segment was Joe Biden's and Arne Duncan's proclaimed support for same sex marriage, while Obama has yet to proclaim his support, and is actually on record as saying he doesn't support SSM but that his position on the issue is evolving. Washington insiders and those who keep up with the political manipulations in DC say that it's a given Obama supports SSM and that he's only waiting until after the election to complete his "evolution". Jake Tapper told Jay Carney that Obama's clever manipulation looks cynical, and someone else said it's too cute by half.

When liberal reporters are irritated with the clever manipulations, it's obvious Obama has gone way too far. I think this is also related to the many manipulations coming from Obama and his administration for a long while now -- reporters and journalists have their limits. Jake Tapper is one of the more honest members of the media, but even among the Morning Joe leftists, such as Katty Kay, the consensus is that Obama should be honest for once. I added the "for once". However, Sam Stein made the point that Gays have nowhere else to turn -- they won't vote for Romney, so what difference does it make? Obama will give them as many crumbs as he can, but Romney will not give them any crumbs.

As I said the other day, and as Sam McKinnon stated on Morning Joe, the issue is really about rights -- the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and government should not have the power to prevent any two people from creating a bond and calling it marriage, regardless of what one thinks of homosexuality. It shouldn't be about special treatment but equal treatment under the law. In this case, there should be no law, because government has no business intervening in marriage and relationships.

Scarborough thinks it's about politics and especially the North Carolina vote. Obama is afraid he'll lose NC if he comes out for SSM, but Katty Kay said voters are smart enough to know that Obama really supports SSM. Scarborough doesn't think many voters pay attention until the last couple of weeks, and the ones who are against SSM but support Obama will believe it when he says he's against SSM. I don't know -- I have to agree with Katty Kay, because now that we have 24/7 news, people are getting the news whether they want it or not.

This only confirms what non-Democrats have known and liberal/progressive Democrats have denied, that Obama is laying low until he wins the second term, and then he will finish his progressive agenda, and his stint as a disappointing Centrist will be over. Liberals never tire of this clever manipulation, though, and will proclaim Obama's Centrism right up to the election, then, if Obama wins, they will sigh relief and join the progressive celebration. Forward, for goodness sake, because what's left behind is too frightening to consider.
